"National Treasure - Era of Sugawara Michizane and masterpieces of Tenmangu shrine", which displays the life of Sugawara Michizane and the expanse of Tenjin faith will be hold in Kyushu National Museum.
Kyushu National Museum has projected this special exhibition of Tenjin which is quite popular among a lot of people as the god of learning and has strong ties with Dazaifu.

Sugawara Michizane (845-903) known as "Tenjin" was one of the best scholar, poet and capable politician of Heian era, but was demoted and transferred toDazaifu in Kyushu due to the political struggles and terminated his life there.
Tanmangu shrine originated with the consolation for his spirit and he was enshrined as Tenjin.

This exhibition will represent all of Sugawara Michizane and Tenjin faith, centers on masterpieces in Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine, Kitano Tenmangu shrine and others.

National Treasures related to Tenjin will be gathered such as "Mementos" (from Domyoji Tenmangu shrine), "Kitano Tenjin picture scroll of Sugawara Michizane's life" (from Kitano Tenmangu shrine) and so one.
This time, another Kitano Tenjin picture scroll from Metropolitan Museum (USA) will be shown as well.

Lots of masterpieces related to Tenjin including 18 pieces of National Treasures and 21 pieces Important cultural assets will come to Dazaifu, where is his last resting place. We hope all of you enjoy this exhibition.

Admission fee:	Adult 1,300yen (1,100yen) High school and undergraduate students 1,000yen (800yen) The school child and the junior high school student 600yen (400yen) ( ) is for advance tickets and group (more than 20 people) tickets Admission free for disability and 1 caretaker. Please bring the physical disability certificate. *( ) fee is also for over 65 years old. Please bring the identification with birth date such as health insurance card, driving license, and so on.
